Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Tangier
On the first day we will meet you at the ferry terminal or airport, depending on where you arrive, and drive you to the hotel. Depending on the time, we may be able to walk around the city a little.
Day 2: Tangier - Cap Spartel - Caves of Hercules - Tangier
After breakfast at the hotel we will explore Tangier. Popular places like the kasbah, medina, and 9 April 1947 Square are fairly close to each other. By the afternoon we will be ready to drive to Cap Spartel to see the place where the Mediterranean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean. You may also see some impressive migratory birds flying between Spain and Morocco. From there we will drive to the Caves of Hercules. Legend has it Hercules rested in the caves on his way to steal the three golden apples from the Garden of the Hesperides, the 11th of his 12 labourers. Afterwards, we will return to the hotel for dinner and some sleep.
Day 3: Tangier - Jebel Musa - Tétouan - Chefchaouen
After breakfast we will head west to Jebel (Mount) Musa which faces the Rock of Gibraltar in Spain. This is the closest point between Morocco and Europe. After we soak in the breathtaking views, we will drive to Tetouan for lunch, then to Chefchaouen for the night. Chefchaouen is nicknamed the “Blue City” because many of the buildings are painted blue. Some think that is a legacy of the Jewish community that lived there. Others think it may be to help repel mosquitoes or to keep the buildings a bit cooler in the summer. No one is sure.
Day 4: Chefchaouen
We will devote the entire day to exploring Chefchaouen. We can divide our time between exploring the medina, souks and cafes, and a quest to find the most picturesque spots for photos.
Day 5: Chefchaouen - Rif Mountains - Fes
After breakfast we will drive through the Rif Mountains to Fes. This route is not as touristy as the other places we have seen so far, but there will be plenty of places to stop for a stretch or take pictures. We should arrive in Fes in time for dinner at the hotel.
Day 6: Fes
After breakfast, the entire day will be devoted to the exploration of Fes, one of the most famous Mediaeval cities in Morocco. Known for its tanneries and other kinds of handmade goods, your trip through the medina and to other historic sights will be an unforgettable adventure. A local guide will accompany you for this part of the tour. We will meet you in time for dinner at the hotel.
Day 7: Fes - Volubilis - Moulay Idriss - Meknes
We will drive south through the Middle Atlas Mountains to the ancient Roman ruins in Volubilis - right after breakfast. Back in the day, Volubilis was a large, bustling city in the proper Roman tradition. It had a forum, villas, buildings with intricate tile mosaics, and a large city gate. And those are just the parts that have been excavated so far! Later in the afternoon we will drive to the holy city of Moulay Idriss for a quick tour, then we will drive to Meknes for the night.
Day 8: Meknes - Tangier
Today we will drive north through the Rif Mountains to return to Tangier. Along the way here will be many opportunities to stop and stretch, get some coffee, or take some pictures. We should arrive in Tangier in plenty of time for dinner. There may even be time to shop for some last minute gifts.
Day 9: Airport or Ferry Transfer
We will tailor this schedule for your needs today. Our main focus will be to have you at the airport or ferry terminal in time for your departure.
